Red Sebastian will represent Belgium at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel with 'Strobe lights'

Saturday 1 February 2025 – Red Sebastian will represent Belgium at the 69th Eurovision Song Contest in Basel (Switzerland). With the song 'Strobe lights' he managed to convince the viewers at home and the jury the most in the Belgian preselection Eurosong 2025. Red Sebastian received 132 points from the professional jury and 291 of the voting public, in total 423 points.

Red Sebastian, that's the stage name of Seppe Herreman (25 years old) from Ghent. With his song Strobe lights he will represent Belgium on the big Eurovision stage in May. In terms of sound, Strobe lights is an ode to the thumping beats of the rave culture of the 90s. Strobe lights describes the story of an exciting club night: you know where it starts but not where it ends.

The song is a feat on a vocal technical level: it very deliberately shows everything of Red Sebastian's vocal ability, both in the high and low registers. With his amazing voice, the singer would like to make a difference in Basel. Red Sebastian wrote the song himself, together with Billie Bentein, Ameerah A. Roelants and Willem Vanderstichele.

Red Sebastian: ‘I am totally shaking. I would like to thank my parents, manager and everyone behind the scenes. But especially my grandmother: she passed away just when I heard I was allowed to take part in Eurosong. But she will be with me anyway.’

Who is Red Sebastian?

Seppe Herreman (Ghent, 25 years old) was already a finalist at the age of 14 at Belgium's got talent (2014). He remained passionate about music and continued his studies at the Conservatory of Ghent where he received singing lessons from Eurosong 2023 winner Gustaph, among others. At the conservatory he developed his alter ego of Red Sebastian. Seppe became a finalist in 2024 in the VTM program Sing Again, in which he stood out for both his fantastic vocal range and his remarkable outfits.

What is his connection with the Eurovision Song Contest?

Red Sebastian is a big fan of the Eurovision Song Contest from an early age:

"As a child, the Eurovision Song Contest always brought strong emotions with it. When I first saw Lordi's monsters, I ducked behind the couch in shock. I was also completely fascinated by Alexander Rybak, who impressed me with his enthusiasm and masterful violin playing. When I was twelve, Loreen completely blew me away, and then I knew for sure: that's where I want to be too. From that moment on, I rehearsed for hours in my bedroom with a microphone in my hand, and I never really stopped."

This year's Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Basel, Switzerland. Last year, the victory went to the Swiss artist Nemo. The two semi-finals are scheduled for Tuesday 13 and Thursday 15 May, the grand final on Saturday 17 May. Red Sebastian will perform for Belgium in the first semifinal.

Note to editors: The video of the winner's performance will be available soon via the official YouTube channel of Eurovision Song Contest.
